I suppose I have a little more sense of it now. I watched the movie as a kid, but the story, the pathos, the ideas don’t really stick with me. It felt very much like a time capsule or like listening to a somewhat immature first album that shows a lot of promise. Good…I liked it and found it interesting, but not super compelling. Keeping the 2019's show horror inspirations would also seem like a useful addition.Some of the other reviews mention that this one is a little rough compared to where this series will go. Its connections to the larger DC Universe can also make the character more appealing for general audiences, and a possible team-up between Swamp Thing and the Justice League Dark could result in a popular cinematic event that brings the dark DC hero to the forefront. That said, the upcoming Swamp Thing movie will most assuredly have the advantage of a bigger budget and a more ambitious script that could make bolder decisions with the character. Unfortunately, the Swamp Thing series came out at the wrong time, as DC and Time Warner were going through various behind-the-scenes changes at the moment, and the show wasn't marketed to match the reach of contemporary comic book releases like Avengers: Endgame and Joker.

The 2019 Swamp Thing series had all the makings of a groundbreaking superhero TV show, as it took a more grounded but sinister approach at the source material than shows like The Flash, Smallville, or Marvel's Agents of SHIELD, and it settled on a well-defined genre without constant references to its parent franchise.
